What is Acceptable and Unacceptable?
Shadows and Lighting
Acceptable Photo is clear and in color, reproduces skin tones accurately, and is properly exposed with no shadows.
Acceptable Color must be accurate
Photo tip: You may need to adjust your camera's white balance setting depending on the lighting.

Photo tip: Photo should not be overexposed or underexposed. You should adjust your camera exposure or use extra lighting.
Glasses
Acceptable No glasses in photo
Unacceptable Glasses are not allowed
Photo tip: Even when you wear glasses every day, you must remove your glasses for your photo.
Unacceptable Sunglasses are not allowed
Photo tip: You must remove your glasses for a photo.
Resolution
Unacceptable Photo is blurred
Photo tip: Double check that your camera is focused before taking the photo.
Unacceptable Photo is blurry
Photo tip: Face should be in focus and without motion blur. Select a shorter exposure time or use a tripod or place camera on a steady surface to eliminate camera movement.
Digital Alteration and Retuching
Unacceptable Background is cropped out using a photo retouching tool, altering the outline of the head, face, and neck
Photo tip: Take your photo in front of a white or off-white background instead of cropping out the background.
Unacceptable Image has been digitally altered to appear thinner
Photo tip: Do not digitally alter the shape of your head or face.
Unacceptable Image has "red eye"
Photo tip: Retake a photo that does not include "red eye". (You can not digitally retouch an image to remove the red eye.)
Pose and Expressions
Acceptable Person is directly facing camera with a neutral expression, eyes are clearly visible
Acceptable Person can smile naturally
Acceptable Person's head must be tilted forward, tilted backward, tilted to the side, rotated, shoulders must be square to the camera,
Photo tip: You should sit or stand straight, face the camera, and look straight ahead.
Unacceptable Facial expression must be neutral
Photo tip: We prefer a neutral facial expression, but a natural smile is also acceptable.
Unacceptable Person's eyes are closed
Photo tip: Person's pupils and irises (colored portions of the eyes) must be clearly visible.
Attrie,Hats, and Hair
Acceptable Person’s full face is visible, no shadows or clothing obscure the face
Photo tip: You may not wear hats or head coverings, except for religious or medical purposes
Unacceptable Head clothing covers part of the face, there must nottt be shadows on the face
Photo tip: Adjust Your head covering so that entire face is visible and free of shadows. Head coverings are only acceptable for religious or medical purposes
Unacceptable An object obscures a portion of the face
Photo tip: The child's full face must be visible.
Unacceptable Person’s scarf must not cover a portion face
Photo tip: Adjust Your attire so that your entire face is visible.
Unacceptable Hats are not allowed
Photo tip: You must wear a hat or head covering, except for religious or medical purposes .

Acceptable Background must be uniform, plain and white or off-white, and free of shadows.
Photo tip: Use a white blanket or sheet to cover a non-white wall.
Unacceptable If Background is not plain,i.e, another person is in the photo, and the face is partially obscured
Photo tip: No other person should be in the photo. Consider placing the child in a car seat with a white or off-white blanket behind the child.
Children
Acceptable No other person must be in the photo, the child is facing the camera with his eyes open
Photo tip: It is acceptable if the infant's eyes (particularly a newborn's) are not, or are not entirely, open.
Acceptable Child must face the camera ,look forward with correct lighting and acceptable facial expression
Unacceptable Photo must not be underexposed, hair may cast shadows on face
Photo tip: Ensure child's hair is not covering the face.
Unacceptable Child must face the front with neutral expression
